Project Management: 4 EffectiveTechniques and Approaches

Projects are different from regular routines and operations of the organization because they are undertaken using resources specially allocated for it by the organization and have to be completed within a limited time frame. Therefore, effective project management or project management services are crucial to make sure that all activities in line with the special undertaking are properly implemented, coordinated, planned, organized, and monitored. Here are four approaches can be applied to manage a project properly and effectively.

1. Use risk assessment
Risk assessment is an essential technique in project management which help the project team prepare solutions to tackle potential problems in the future. Risk assessment involves:
i.  Identifying the potential risks that may arise in the course of the project;
ii. Analyzing these risks;
iii. Prioritizing them.

2. PERT and Gantt charts: Understand and use
Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and Gantt charts are basic and fundamental tools that have been used in project management. Generally, PERT charts can be used to identify the sequence of tasks. Gantt charts, on the other hand, can be used to determine the order that the tasks should be completed. In short, both Gantt and PERT charts help a project management team to allocate their resources efficiently and to provide a guidance for all team members in accomplishing their tasks effectively.

3. Hire an experienced project management consultant
It should be noticed that it might be a good idea to hire an experienced project management consultant to assist the project leader if the project is something new and complex, and goes beyond the experience and expertise of the designated manager. Project management consultants will not only simplify the processes involved, but also help the project management members understand the whole scope of the undertaking. As a consequence, projects can be accomplished in a limited amount of time with the help from the experienced project management consultant to avoid unnecessary delays and mistakes.

4. Take advantage of project management software
Time and mistakes can be reduced by integrating technology onto the project management. In order words, software programs or Internet-based applications can be used to plan, organize and coordinate projects as well as streamline the management process.
