How to Complete Malaysia Income Tax Registration via Internet: Request Tax Reference and PIN e-filling No.

Finally, I have my done my Income Tax filling through internet in my room. It is really very convenient to avoid traffic and long queue. Thus, hereby, I would like to record and share my experience that may help you to fill you income tax in your house.

1. Request Tax reference No.

Firstly, for first times user, go to e-Daftar (url: http://edaftar.hasil.gov.my/) to get your Tax reference number of tax. It takes around 3 days. Please make sure the email address is permanent because it will be used to request Pin No as well.

2. Request Pin e-Filling No.

There are two ways to request your Pin No via Internet. The first one is to use the online "Request Pin No" platform at url: https://spsd.hasil.gov.my/PKI/e/ReqPinno.html. However, it did not work in my case. Thus, I used the second approach, that is, the feedback form (url: http://www.hasil.gov.my/smp/) to request my Pin No.

This feedback form method took me around 5 working days. There are two things you may need to pay attention if you want to use the feedback form method. First, please attach your scanned IC. Second, please select the correct category, that is, "Permohonan" -> "PIN e-Filling".

So, you may be wondering what should you write on the "Butiran" space? The following is a short "Butiran" that I used and worked in my case.

"
Tuan/Puan,

Saya ingin memohon PIN e-filing.

Dokumen pengenalan sudah dilampirkan dalam format pdf.

Sekian, terima kasih.
"

In short, in order to apply your PIN via LHDN online system, all you need is to have
  • Internet connection,
  • your scanned IC in required format, and
  • a permanent email address.
Since it will take approximately 10 working days, this method is not suitable for last minute people. For example, if you are going to fill BE form that due 30th April 2013, then you should avoid use the aforementioned method for your income tax registration in the last 10 working days.
After that, you only need to remember your password (of course, and your IC number) to access your Income Tax account. That's all for today. Hi Xaivier, I'm a fresh grad whose starting work in September and was told to register for an income tax # by my own. Would I be able to do it online? I've been on the government website but it seems a little foreign and confusing to me. Thanks in advance!

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Jun Hsien,

Yes, you can. Just follow the steps (and links) that stated in this post. It is quite straightforward.

All the best.

After i done the step 1 [Request Tax reference No.],and got the No. Permohonan, what is actually the No. Permohonan use for? How to semak status permohonan?

After that, am i need to proceed step 2 that request PIN e-filling?

Thanks =D

Hi,

I got the NO. RUJUKAN after step 1 is done.
But when I try to semak No. Cukai Pendapatan by my IC No., it shows me 'Tiada Rekod Nombor Cukai Pendapatan Bagi No. Kad Pengenalan Baru'.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Reeve,

It is just a reference no. It may be useful when you want to check acc. with LHDN.

And Yes, you need to open e-filling according via the second step.

Best wishes.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi oxsam,

I think you need to complete the second step to have your No. Cukai pendapatan.

Best wishes.

Hi Xaivier,

I've tried multiple times via IE/Chrome to register myself on e-Daftar, however, the same error message on Nama, Jantina and Tarikh Lahir keeps popping out. I am very sure that nothing's wrong on these 3 columns. Have you came across this problem? Even when i was trying to email them the feedback form, same error message showed up saying that my IC No doesn't match my name.

Appreciate your advice on this.

Thank you.

Regards,
HL

Hi Hen Li Chin,

I think the problem might be caused by browser or the website.

Do try to update your browser and try it again. Sometime Firefox works.

I just take a look at the link and find out that the website has been updated. So, maybe it is still not ready and it is better to try it again after few working days.

Best wishes,

(p/s: I think I experienced the similar problem previously when I tried to use "the online "Request Pin No" platform ". Nonetheless, the feedback form worked for me.)

I've got the Pin No from them via phone-call. So the next step is to file the tax return? Am I right?

Thank you.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi anastasiah ravivarma,

I think you may consider the method used by Hen Li Chin - phone-call.

Hi Hen Li Chin, thanks for your updates. Yes, you can file your tax return via https://e.hasil.gov.my/ or https://spsd.hasil.gov.my/PKI/userlogin.html

Cheer!

Unknown said...

what is the number to call in order to get the pin?

Xaivier Chia said...

Here you go, Daniel - https://spsd.hasil.gov.my/PKI/contact.html.

However, normally, it is better to use "call" as last resort.

Hi Xaivier, do you know how much salary have to pay tax now? I know last time is 2.5k, however if we haven't reach the salary, we not only register, but need to fill the tax return too right?

Xaivier Chia said...

If not mistakes, it should be more than RM26000 annual income.

Yup, even though it is not compulsory for those do not reach the taxable income amount, we should fill in and submit the form to declare income, especially for those want to claim back their surplus tax (dividend from listed companies).

I submitted tax declaration three years to claim back my surplus tax when I was postgraduate student.

All the best.

Xaivier Chia said...

one more thing to share - remember to keep all your proof (e.g. dividend voucher) for at least 9 years.

All the best.

Thanks Xaivier=)

Janlee said...

Hi. I accidentally filled up the wrong annual income in e-daftar form. And now they are processing the registration already. Will I be able to change it in future? Just wondering. ><

Xaivier Chia said...

I think you can still change it via calling to their office. I found some information about it in their website - " For further information, kindly contact the nearest LHDNM branch or toll free line at 1-800-88-5436 (LHDN). "

Based on my unreliable memory:

1. If you have declared more than you actual have, you need to call them or visit their office to get back your excess tax paid.

2. If you have declared less than you actual have, supposedly you can declare the "extra income" next year. Supposedly, there is a option for us to declare any "extra income" that we forgot to declare in previous year. You can verify this by looking at the e-form from your peers who haven't submitted their tax declaration.

I tried to login my acc. but I cannot access it. Because I have submitted my e-form already.

All the best.

Janlee said...

Thank you so much for the info. I actually did try to call the number for hours. But it just keeps saying their line is occupied. So frustrating. But I do remember that someone told me it's possible to get back the excess tax paid.

Once again, thank you so much.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Janlee,

This should be expected because this month is the peak season for them. So, I think, if possible, it is better for you to visit their office.

Best wishes.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Xaivier,

I want to know whether NO. PENDAFTARAN (SYARIKAT) same as No.Majikan ?

Thanks.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Xavier, i accidentally did step 2 first without edaftar. How can i rectify this? Should i call them or just do the edaftar now? Thanks.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Ian Low - yes, last time they emailed to me.

Hi Amy - Just do the first step. Most likely, your step may be unsuccessful. So, you may need to re-do again. Don't worry.

p/s: new system might be much user-friendly than the time I did (2013). If you forget password, just retrieve it via email instead of keep trying. Lastly, all the best and happy e-filling to all of you.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Ian Low, if not mistake, you can check the status in their website as well.

Cheers!

Syelaine said...

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Syelaine,

There are some changes since I posted this sharing in 2013.

The website has changed. By using Google, I have found the new link of https://ez.hasil.gov.my/ci/.

I hope the link can lead you to complete your e-filling.

Cheers!

Hi Xaivier,

I have a question here regarding E-filing.

If i have worked in two different companies in the same year, how should i do my E-filing? what are the procedure? do i have to submit two diffrent file and how? please help!

Thanks a million!!!

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Elaine Wong,

E-filling can help us finalise our total tax duty of the year.

For example, 2014 Jan-June I worked in Company A with tax RM200 per month autopay.
2014July - December I worked in Company B with higher salary thus higher tax of RM500 per month autopay.

In average, however, I have over-paid the tax because I was assumed to have higher salary throughout the years (thus, higher % of autopay),

By filling my annual gross income, EPF contributes etc, extra tax that I have paid will be identified and returned to me, and vice versa.

So, the procedure is: use a tool e.g. excel to figure out the total income, EPF etc. then key-in to the e-filling system.

Note: Each individual only need one account to report the total earning throughout the year.
Note: For those income is lower than RM2600 per month, e-filling is optional for them.

I hope my sharing can help you one or two.

Best wishes,

Thanks alot Xaivier for your prompt reply and yes your sharing is helpful!

By the way, is is possible to revise a submitted E-File. I am trying to help this friend who actually miss out her KSWP amount in the E-file thus causing to pay for the tax. In fact, she could actually claim it back.

Xaivier Chia said...

Hi Elaine Wong,

Once it is submitted, I afraid we cannot make any change in the online system. The best practice is to save it first, and only submit it after we have finalized all the related things before due date.

So, for your friend's case, you need to ask your friend to visit KSWP or call them for help asap.

Best wishes
